Who said door knocking was easy? Have you been sinking and in need of a life jacket? Well, most of us have at one point or another felt that way on turf. You know that sinking feeling every time we get rejected from a customer. There are many sales to be made in door knocking and the individuals who can stay calm and not stress themselves out over the job have a better chance of not sinking. Door to door sales is a long-term commitment and the majority of the time it allows you to become financially free. You attain the funds to be able to grow your bank account and pay for living expenses. Living frugally at the beginning until you could put a minimum of ten thousand dollars aside as a cushion is important in the profession of door to door sales.
I want to discuss tapping into the funds that you have set aside. So many of you that I have trained have grown their accounts to two to three, four or five thousand and there are times when you have difficulties selling so you tend to fall back and tap into your funds. This should be a slap on the wrist. Reason being is that if you truly ask yourself if you went out that week and put forth the full amount of energy and effort to get that sale, ninety-nine percent of you will say that you did not do that.
Over the many years that I have been training in the profession of door to door sales I have seen people who take on the profession to get by because there is no other opportunity for them. I have also seen many people who take the job seriously. If you are half acing it then I am here to tell you that you are affecting the company you are working for. Having said that, owners, you need to understand and identify the structure for your business. Are you going to just bring anybody in to work for you? Or are you going to hire people with a set amount of experience and energy? Really build a team that is what I like to call the “Olympic team” of door knocking. What type of energy or atmosphere do you want to set forth within your company? For managers out there, you have to guide and lead your team in the best direction. If you really set up and have a plan of success for your company, picking your management team is crucial in order to get the job done. Choosing friends or families of the owner to do the job can set you apart if they are not doing the job right. I want you to think about that for a minute.
Now, sales people, if you need to be micromanaged then you need to check yourself and make some changes. Leaching off of companies and constantly being reminded to get on task is not a good quality to have. So, either make changes or stop right now and walk away from the profession. It angers me when people do not want to really learn and master what it is, they are doing. People do not put a full amount of effort into their projects. Of course, I am aware that at times there are different scenarios that may affect you at the doors, however, you still put your all in, well, in that case, you are on the right path.
When I was managing a team, there were so many workers that would bring the management team down because they tell you they want to become successful but their actions do not show it over a long period of time. For those of you who are in for the long run and put a hundred percent in door knocking, I want you to take a moment and think of the map of the world. When you zoom out it appears easy. As you zoom in, it becomes more complicated. You need to know the countries and you need to see the smaller details and learn them. This is the same as door knocking! You need to learn those details and when you do you will get better and close those sales. In order to achieve this, you need to stay focused and use the resources I provide to master the art of door knocking.
